Botathon #7 JKUAT

The Community of Practice played a crucial role in the AI Summit 2025 Hackathon at JKUAT by providing mentorship, technical guidance, and thought leadership. Mentors, including Nick Mumero, Conrad Kabuye, and Aisha Nur, actively supported participants throughout the event, offering one-on-one mentorship sessions and helping teams refine their project ideas. As part of knowledge-sharing efforts, Nick Mumero delivered a masterclass on "Building Voice-First RAG Systems for Africa," equipping mentees with practical AI skills. The Community of Practice also facilitated the onboarding of participants into its network, aiming to expand its reach among AI practitioners. Additionally, its mentors played a key role in evaluating hackathon projects, selecting the top three teams—Medical Innovators, Deep Think, and Datasage—for final consideration by JHUB. Beyond mentorship, the Community of Practice contributed to the AI discourse through Brian Omwenga’s participation in a panel discussion on Kenya’s AI landscape, where he shared insights on AI policy and innovation. The organization also documented mentorship sessions, demo videos, and conference activities, ensuring valuable resources were archived and shared on social media. Through these contributions, the Community of Practice reinforced its commitment to fostering AI innovation, mentorship, and community growth.
